Lake Arrowhead
Dirt Bike Routes

The front-country forest west of Big Bear, around Lake Arrowhead, Crab Flats, and Deep Creek. This is the closest real green-sticker riding to the Inland Empire: the Crab Flats roads and a designated motorcycle singletrack above Deep Creek, plus a long green-sticker ridge along Cleghorn above Silverwood Lake. The forested high country holds snow, so the upper roads close in winter (roughly December–April). Route geometry and elevation come from the Forest Service's official travel maps and public terrain data.

Lake Arrowhead, California · San Bernardino National Forest · 6 routes

Plated street-legal bikes are fine on every route here. The badges below show where green-sticker (non-street-legal) OHVs are allowed; that's the part that varies, sometimes segment by segment.

Green sticker OK

Non-street-legal (green-sticker) OHVs allowed on the route.

Green sticker: partial

Green-sticker allowed on some segments only; read the note.

Street-legal plate only

Street-legal, plated vehicles only; no green-sticker OHVs.

Access unverified

Couldn't verify green-sticker access; confirm with the managing agency.

Ways to string these routes into a full ride instead of a single road. Mileage is a rough composite; segments overlap and connect, so plan time and fuel with a margin.

Crab Flats Green-Sticker Day

~19mi↓ GPX

The area's green-sticker core: the Crab Flats roads and the Deep Creek singletrack.

The green-sticker riding here clusters around Crab Flats. Stage at the Crab Flats road (3N34), session the Deep Creek motorcycle singletrack (2W01), which is true narrow-gauge trail, motorcycles only, then add Miller Canyon (2N37) for more designated mileage. One honest catch: Crab Flats and Pilot Rock are mixed, open to all vehicles on some segments and to street-legal vehicles only on others, so on a non-plated bike you ride the green-sticker stretches and trailer or shuttle past the plate-only links. The singletrack is the real reason to come. Budget by hours, not the rough 19-mile composite.

Cleghorn Ridge & the West Side

~42mi↓ GPX

A long western day along the Cleghorn and Pilot Rock ridges above Silverwood.

The west side of the area is all about ridge mileage above Silverwood Lake. Run Cleghorn Ridge (2N47), about 15 miles of green-sticker road and the rare long OHV ride a non-street-legal bike can do here, link Pilot Rock (2N33) back toward the Arrowhead crest, then drop the long, remote Bailey Canyon (2N49) if you want a committing plated finish. Cleghorn is green-sticker, Pilot Rock is mixed, and Bailey is open to street-legal vehicles only, so plan access by bike. A big, exposed day; carry water and watch the weather, since the clay turns greasy after rain.

The hub of the Crab Flats green-sticker network near Green Valley Lake.

3N34 runs through the Crab Flats area between Green Valley Lake and the Deep Creek country, the staging hub for this corner of the forest. Graded dirt with rockier, rutted stretches through pine and cedar, linking the campground to the OHV roads and trails around it. Part of it is open to all vehicles and part is open to street-legal vehicles only, so green-sticker access depends on the segment.

Designated motorcycle singletrack in the Deep Creek country.

Trail 2W01 is a designated motorcycle trail threading the slopes above Deep Creek, narrow green-sticker singletrack with rocky, twisting tread well off the fire roads. This is the kind of riding people come to this side of the forest for: true singletrack, motorcycles only, not a graded road. Short, but it pairs naturally with the Crab Flats roads for a real green-sticker day.

Long green-sticker ridge road above Silverwood Lake, about 15 miles.

2N47 runs the Cleghorn Ridge above Silverwood Lake and the Cajon Pass, roughly 15 miles open to all vehicles the length of its OHV stretch. That makes it the rare thing on a dirt bike: a long green-sticker ride, not just a short spur. Rocky, high-clearance tread along an exposed chaparral ridge with big views down to the lake and out over the pass, well away from the Crab Flats crowds.

Short green-sticker road dropping through Miller Canyon.

2N37 follows Miller Canyon as a road open to all vehicles, a compact green-sticker option with sandy canyon-bottom stretches and rockier benches through chaparral on the slopes below Crab Flats. A quick, scenic ride and a natural add-on to a bigger green-sticker day in the area rather than a destination on its own.

Long ridge road between Lake Arrowhead and Silverwood, partly green-sticker.

2N33 works the ridge between the Lake Arrowhead crest and Silverwood Lake past the Pilot Rock landmark, a long high-clearance road with rocky, rutted climbs and long views in both directions. Part of it is open to all vehicles and part is open to street-legal vehicles only, so green-sticker access shifts from one segment to the next.

Long, remote plated backcountry road on the west side of the area.

2N49 pushes a long way through the Bailey Canyon backcountry on the Silverwood / Cleghorn side, roughly 16 miles of rough, high-clearance road through remote chaparral and oak. It's open to street-legal vehicles only, so it's a plated dual-sport ride: quiet, committing, and a good way to cover ground away from the OHV staging areas. Carry water and go prepared.

Best season
